Main threats: Habitat loss

Asian elephants live in grassland and forests, from sea level to 3000m. They live up to 60 years in the wild and reach maturity at around 15 years old. Asian elephants eat up to 150kg of plant matter a day.

Asian elephant population have dropped more than 50% in three and their range has fallen by 95%. They are frequently in conflict with humans over food and are poached for their ivory and meat. Reducing this conflict and protect their habitat are key to their survival.
